Our New Home

Twenty six months later, we have completed construction! As desired, we have spent Christmas 2011 in the new house. Craig and the kitties arrived December 18, and Lesley and I arrived December 23. It’s been glorious getting to know our new home. We unpacked many boxes, arranged and re-arranged furniture and have met several of the neighbors. We had four guests visit us and enjoyed hosting them. We look forward to many happy years in our new home and making many happy memories. Here are some pictures. Admittedly, there is still some work to be done but most is outdoors and cannot be finished until spring/summer 2012. But, it’s really looking like home.

Feast your eyes on these amazing pictures.

Accents

In case you missed all the great accents we’re adding in the house, below are some of these.

Living room beams. They were not in the original plans.

This is the fireplace (obviously). The stonework is the same that is on the outside of the house. The mantel is the same as the beams in the living and dining room.

These are the beams in the dining room.  They were always in the plans.

These are the garage doors and the accent in the peaks. The accents in the peaks remind me of Wilderness Lodge at Disney World. Love it!

Not sure if you can see this. There are these accents throughout the house that I believe are called soffits. They delineate areas of the house. In the above picture, these are at various places along the hallway.

For those of you who missed the installment on the accent tiles, the above are in the guest bath. The master bath has a Momma and baby bear cub. There is a large mural that goes over the stove.

Santa Cecelia – the granite counter tops.

Bear paw knobs. These go in the kitchen and all the bathrooms. I won’t bore you with the rest of the knobs. I’ll refer you to the post for pictures of those.

Several accents for the outside of the house. First are the sitting walls. These two plus one off the master bedroom patio. The second is the lattice work off the roof line. Very nice, yes?

Progress

Check out the pictures of our recent visit to the worksite. Notice the snow. First of the season. The house looks stunning with the snow.

And in the sunshine.

Accent Tiles

You won’t BELIEVE these great accent tiles.  They are from The Source Group near Denver. They etch the tiles then stain them to make the etching stand out.  These are for the bathrooms, kitchen, and wine room.

Master Bathroom

These tiles will go in the master bathroom in the shower and along the tub.

Guest bathroom

These will go in the guest bathroom as an accent in the tub/shower.

Wine Room

These will alternate with non-etched tiles in the wine room.  If you check the previous blog about cabinet knobs, you’ll notice that the knobs for the wine room are buffalo.

Kitchen

This is the mural that will be in the backsplash above the stove. Along the counter top will alternate the accent tiles from the bathrooms.

Now you can understand the bear paw track knobs for the bathrooms and the kitchen. I’m likin’ the theme. I better. I’ll be living with this for a long time.

Cabinet Knobs Reloaded

I did it!  I finally chose the cabinets knobs for the house.  This wasn’t easy.  As I talked about in previous posts, there are literally thousands to choose from.  I really wanted theme knobs to match the room.  Below are our chosen knobs and the rooms they will be in.

Wine Room

This decision started the whole thing.  My husband has chosen a buffalo theme for the wine room.  We will have etched tiles along the three sides of the counter (more on this when I get the pictures) and he was looking for knobs to match.  I found this on eBay and ordered them.

These looked so good, we ordered more for the living room cabinets.

Laundry Room

I chose something that says “laundry”.  What could possibly say that?  Clothes of course.  I chose a set that has boxers, socks, short sleeve t-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, and jeans.

Butler’s Pantry

We went with a different theme for the Butler’s Pantry.  I searched for fruits, veggies, drinks, silverware, dinnerware but didn’t find anything I liked.  So we went with a nature theme and found this Aspen leaf.  Appropo for a mountain home.

Kitchen and Bathrooms

This took me a long time to make a decision.  When we decided on the accent tiles, and you’ll just have to wait to see those when I get the pictures, I went on a hunt for the same theme.  I finally found what I liked and am in the process of ordering 66 of these.

Aren’t these the best?  Bear paw tracks!  Can you guess what the theme for the accent tiles are?

Siding Going Up

The siding is being installed. Check out the photos!

More photos!

And the sitting wall and trellis are going in.

Insulation

OK folks, the insulation has been installed and the drywall is happening right now.  Below are pictures of the insulation.  The roof had a foam of some type sprayed on (and it wasn’t the best smelling thing) but the wall insulation is the typical pink.

Garage is in

They poured the garage earlier this week.  Very nicely done!

During the weekend of our first walkthrough, we also had the first party in the new house.  OK, so it wasn’t anything fancy, but it sure was fun.  I got to show off the house before the walls were closed.  My parents, sister, brother and their families, a cousin and her husband visiting from New York and our project manager and his wife all attended.  Everyone was impressed with the progress.
